Segment 4: Topic of the Week

Travis and James talked over the various decks and cards likely to make an impact this weekend at Pro Tour: Kaladesh and concluded that Smuggler’s Copter and the plethora of aggro decks are likely to maintain their role as the dominant play style of the format. 1. This says episode 37 but it is actually 36 that looks like it was uploaded. Where can I listen to #37?

  2. James, I love your coverage of events but YOU HAVE TO STOP TALKING ABOUT BANS!! You have never been so wrong about a card in your life, Smuggler’s Copter is NEVER GETTING BANNED! It doesn’t promote slow or unfair play, it’s not overpowered, there are a slew of answers of to it…just stop already with this “emergency ban of copter” crap. It’s hard for me to take ANY of your other arguments seriously when you keep talking about banning a card that technically does NOTHING the turn you cast it without help. If CoCo wasn’t banned and neither was Pack Rat nor Siege Rhino then Copter certainly isn’t going to get banned. Chill out with this emergency ban unless your end goal is to convince people to sell them out of fake fear so you can pick them up at a low and then sell them when Aether Revolt is released.

    1. Hey Spencer, thanks for the feedback. Firstly, I never said Copter was getting banned. What I said was, that anyone investing in the card needs to be aware that if the card continued to dominate in the way it did at SCG Indy, and this went on for many weeks, it would be on the table to ban it. Any card that is an auto-include in every deck in Standard would be a candidate for banning after a certain period of time, because boredom and predictability are the death knell of a format and the harbinger of poor set sales on the long tail. That being said, Copter showed up as a strong, but not overwhelming presence at the Pro Tour and it seems safe for the time being. p.s. I would never give intentionally bad advice to attempt to manipulate the market. If I’m wrong, it’s the honest kind of wrong.
