Segment 3: Metagame Week in Review
The SCG Modern Open in St. Louis this past weekend was dominated with Eldrazi decks once again, constituting not just half the top 8, but half the top 32 as well. As the menaces of the blind eternities continue to ravage constructed Magic, can we as players see a light at the end of the tunnel?
Segment 4: Topic of the Week – Should Wizards of the Coast test Modern?
Given the state of Modern, should Wizards make an effort to test new sets for the format in order to prevent these warped metagames? The guys also touch briefly on Conspiracy 2 and what it means for Magic’s financial health.

Funny you assholes never talk about buyouts, like it isn’t happening. Aboria got bought out by your idiot listeners, cards gonna fucking drop. You’re completely right, it was their fault that Arboria was close to being bought out for weeks before they made the Podcast. And it sees no play, just like other cards that were pushed by the Magic Illuminati. Sliver Queen for example sees zero play, yet it is a $40 card. How is that even possible? Must be a conspiracy. Uh, no, wait, maybe Magic is about more than just the 4-5 mainstream formats? Nah, what must not be cannot be!
Seriously, Arboria had almost zero supply for quite some time now due to natural demand by ‘casual’ players. The effect is very unique, quite strong and it’s a lot of fun to play with that card if you build your deck around it (which is even more fun). Combine that with the fact that Legends is one of the sets with the lowest print runs in Magic history (topped only by Alpha, Beta and (though close) Unlimited and on the same level as Arabian Nights) and the buyout doesn’t surprise me at all. Even more so since ‘buyout’ means that someone bought the last 5 copies left on TCGPlayer for about $20. It was bound to happen sooner or later and rightly so.
Btw, Time Elemental (Legends version obviously) is almost bought out as well for quite some time now. No lp/nm copies available for weeks and right now there is only a bunch of played copies on TCGPlayer. It’s one of the few 93/94 playable cards that didn’t spike yet, so eventually it will most likely go up to $1000 (before it comes down to ~$20-$30).

How and when and where and to whom were you able to sell Scorched Ruins for $20? I stocked up on colorless lands such as Scorched Ruins, Temple of the False God, Shrine of the Forsaken Gods and Eldrazi Temple to build a few (colorless) artifact and Eldrazi decks before those spiked recently and I am still waiting for Cloudpost to spike as well. I have a difficult time believing someone paid $20 for Scorched Ruins!
I have also been stocking up on Ancient Ziggaraut and Pillar of Paruns for the decks I play with multiple colors. I also love casting Colossus of Akros and/or Prophet of Kruphix. I have a difficult time not putting them in every one of my decks. I realize Prophet just got banned in Commander, but how can a colorless artifact creature who starts at 10/10 and becomes a 20/20 indestructible monstrosity peak at $1.75?!?

These podcasts are really great, but the sound levels make it difficult to listen to sometime. I never have a problem with James, but Travis is lower pitch and should be made a bit louder or asked to get a better mic/annunciate more.
