“I hate to break it to you, but this site has more traffic now than ever, and we’re talking major numbers.”
-James Chillcott 12/21/16
Where is everybody???
Probably gone to QuietSpeculation or someplace else? That’s what happens when you make 75% of the content “Protrader only”.
Isn’t quiet speculation entirely pay-only? I’ve not found a free article there.
There’s been some problems on this site lately but 5 dollars a month is basically free and allows the content creators to get a little back for their hard work. You’ve grown up in the entitled free internet era and it gives you pains adjusting to having to pay for things you like again.
Thanks for the support Tom. If you have specific concerns, feel free to send them through in the forums or via email.
What do you mean “where is everybody?” The majority of this site is not the blog, and blog comments per article are headed up not down. Trust me, I see server logs every week. Keep in mind Pro Trader articles have always been a thing. The only different in the last year is that the articles are all protected for our paying members for 48 hours, which is long enough to give them the edge they deserve without making the content irrelevant past that period. If you value the content, consider joining them.
1) Ugin is not from SOI
2) Pretty sure that foil Ugins are not $30
Yeah
Shane, sorry, non-foil Ugins ARE on TCG right now very close to $30. Price entry point is achievable if you move on it as discussed on cast.
Ugin foils are like $80 on TCG. No idea where you’re getting $30.
Your original post had foil Ugins from SOI at pick #2. Own up to your damn mistakes.
Yes, Shane, this was a mistake, which I corrected. A simple copy and paste error, and utterly contrary to what was discussed within the Podcast. If you want the unedited advice, listen to the Podcast.
That’s not what he’s talking about, James. You edited your comment above to make it look as though you acknowledged your mistake from the get go. In fact, you were defiant and I pointed out they were $80 foils and then you edited the comment I responded to. We can’t edit like that. Neither should you.
You’re misinterpreting my actions. The original text in the Show Notes was a mistake, a simple copy and paste error. Each week I take the last set of Show Notes, copy and paste them into a new file, and update each element in turn. I missed a couple of things this week. When the user pointed out the mistake, I wrongly assumed in my first comment that he had not properly researched the price of the non-foils, and stated that they were in fact available at the price we recommended they be purchased at, without noticing I was in fact reinforcing the first error by carrying forward the reference to foils. I later realized my boondoggle and exposed it. I’m owning all of this, but it’s entirely minor. What matters is that non-foil Ugin at or near $30 is a good pick up.
Could we get the ability to edit our comments? It would be very helpful to do so, especially for those of us that access it via mobile.
Curtains’ Call is from Commander not AER
Esper Charm from Shards not Coomander
Corrected, cheers.
I find it less than useful when these podcasts come out and talk about an event that happened a week ago and is totally irrelevant now.
I thought the information provided was intended to give us a heads up on what is happening, not a look at what has already happened?
I know you guys likely can’t get the cast out sooner due to scheduling or having other obligations, that’s fine. But if that’s the case, please adjust the content so that you’re not talking about a week old event. The cards you note are going to move have already moved by the time we receive your content. It makes the cast feel very outdated.
I might suggest that knowing that you cast comes out later in the week that you talk about what you might expect to happen at the next event or other cards that might move in response. Your information may come across as more precognitive.
Very informative and true. You guys really need to focus more on present time and more up to date subjects, as citing the past is not worth 5 bucks.
Our weekly picks alone are worth far more than $5/month, and that’s just from the podcast. The collective advice from all articles, the podcast and the site tools is worth considerably more. The value really isn’t debatable, it just depends on whether you choose to act on it.
Hi there. I presume you are referring to the Metagame Week in Review segment. I strongly disagree that the results from the last week of major tournaments are irrelevant by the following Thursday/Friday when the show is released online. Heading into the next weekend is precisely when you want to be thinking about what happened recently, and which cards are ebbing or flowing as a result, what decks to expect, and where you might want to push in your chips or withdraw them. This is the entire purpose of that segment and I believe we do a good job of making that content valuable. We have received numerous positive comments on that information, but we will certainly consider methods of further enhancing it.
Please do. The “week in review” is fine, but I think what the original commenter is getting at is that there needs to be more emphasis on the future and more connections at the present. Granted there’s some of that already but more is needed. Perhaps a short written commentary for each of the cards reviewed might be helpful here? My apologies if that wasn’t clear in the previous comment.
Keep in mind that these Show Notes are meant to be a mere skeleton of the full content provided in the podcast. I’ll consider adding additional info where it seems pertinent, but full access to the logic on the calls is available to all via the show itself.
Could you please add time stamps to the segments to make it easier to access this full logic? Thanks.
Solid idea. Will look into it with Travis.
The best way to predict the future is to understand the past. By looking at what happened last weekend and over the following three days, it gives us some perspective on where the metagame and markets are moving. We intersperse predictions about whether a card’s price will move and in which direction, what may fade or rise in a meta, and discuss possible outcomes based on shifts in deck popularity or ban list changes.
We also include an entire section about cards whose prices we expect to rise, and discuss what factors we’re seeing that support that conclusion. Just this past show we saw two cards show up as having risen 100% to 400% in price after having predicted as much two and three weeks ago.
I can appreciate that people want predictions and not just a history lesson, but I don’t see how we could make many more declarations about the future without just guessing at this point.
Fair point-perhaps instead of just guessing, more elaboration on the picks you do have is in order?
Hey guys,
What is the best place to aske questions for the show? You’ve probably said it a million times on the podcast, and i just blanked it…
Q: When i hear mtg investers talk about sitting on “a few hundred” or large amounts of a single card, how do they get those? I can rarely get more than 4 at a time from most vendors. Do they just buy all the inventory from the 25 cheapest on TCGplayer or ebay?
Seems even harder on MTGO, now that most bots will auto-increase upon selling a playset.
Any tips? Thanks!
