It is very possible that Wizards got extremely lucky. We are one week away from Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch, and it is very possible that this Modern event does the one thing that none of its predecessors has ever done before.
This event might actually feature new(ish) cards.

Hey, happy Oath of the Gatewatch release day! We are going to talk about a couple of different topics today, the first of which focuses on activity unique to set release season. While this information is probably too late to be relevant for Oath, it’s worth discussing with other new sets so close on the horizon. Also, rather than doing quick hits at the end, I’ll be peppering them throughout and between the bigger, meatier topics.

So you may have noticed by now that we here at MTGPrice did not do our traditional division of labor for set review season. It makes sense given the context, because Oath of the Gatewatch is a small set that, due to unprecedented internal issues over inside Wizards1, feels cramped. However, I definitely think that there is enough meat on the bone that the set needs to be examined. And hey, if we finish early, y’all can go play on the playground before you get picked up. Deal? That’s what I thought.

The year is getting off to a pretty strong start with these preview cards that we’ve been getting (we will talk about them a little bit, but I’m ultimately saving strength for my set review portion).
