PROTRADER: PucaPicks for 11/24/16

Hello and if you celebrate it, Happy Thanksgiving!

If that’s not a holiday you celebrate, that’s just giving you more time to get the jump on some awesome cards.

This week, I want to look at some cards that are higher in price, but still Standard-legal. We’ve had a lot of results, and it’s time to let the numbers sink in. We’ve also had lots and lots of Kaladesh opened, with a lot more yet to go, so I’ll be keeping that in mind as well.

Some of these are buys, and some are sells. All of these are set to rotate next September, so rotation worries haven’t set in yet. I was surprised when I looked at some of the point values, and that game of expectations vs. reality is always what I want to try and profit from.

ProTrader: Magic doesn’t have to be expensive.

Last week I left off after Magic 2015, and I’ve got some more to talk about! I’m diving for uncommons and commons that are in high demand and yet can be found languishing in old binders and bulk boxes. This week, we are going to make it all the way back to Return to Ravnica, being on the lookout for cards that people want a lot, not just the ones that are high value.

I want to reiterate: These are the cards that can be overlooked, or underestimated. You might think that these are too commonly printed to be worth the trouble, or no one wants these, but I’m here to help make picking through a binder or a bulk box that much more fun and profitable.

So Commander 2016 lands in a week, and maybe some of you are checking your big box stores early. It’s not unheard of for them to stock these a day or two ahead of schedule.

This week I want to look at the listed prices and see where I can either buy low or sell high, even though you can’t quite get your hands on these yet, I like to plan ahead.

I want to be clear that if you can buy the decks on the first day, and then move out the singles, I don’t think that’s a winning play…mostly. The postage rate is going to be pretty high, unless you’ve got a great source for stamps, or you know someone who wants most of a deck.

That being said, these decks have a ton of value, and a lot of potential. Some people, who get stamps through work or some such, are going to really turn their $30 msrp into an easy 6000 points, but I just don’t have the time for that. If you do, more power to you. I’m properly envious of those who have the stamps and the spare time.

On to the cards!

So here we are, a few weeks into this format, and it’s time to start looking at what’s a buy and what’s a sell. A lot of cards have hit a bottom, and a lot of other cards are still overpriced compared to how many more there are to be opened.

This week, I want to dive into Kaladesh and see what’s worth getting and what I think you should send away as soon as you crack it.
