It’s that time of year once again. With the Battle for Zendikar release on the horizon, the writers here at MTGPrice have you covered. We’re going through each of the colors in the set and breaking down which cards we anticipate will be strong upon release, which may have a shot in an eternal format, and which are plain, old duds.
This time things are a little different, however. In past sets, there were many possibilities for various cards to “break out” and surge in price relative to their pre-sale price. From Origins, examples include Hangarback Walker and Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy. While cards from Battle for Zendikar may still spike upon release due to an artificially light supply, I’m not so confident we’ll see many real money-makers in the set.
The reason? One word: Expeditions.

I never thought I’d live to see the day I regretted not visiting Oklahoma City. Yet in a roundabout way, Wizards of the Coast made this happen by hosting a Modern Grand Prix there. This year’s fourth Pro Tour season is bookended by Modern events, kicking off in Oklahoma City and wrapping up in Pittsburgh near the end of November.
And there are zero Modern Grands Prix in between.

It’s working. I can’t believe it’s actually working.
Since writing my “Credit is King” article a few weeks ago, I have managed to turn about $170 into over $500 in store credit. This growth is a result of nothing more than taking trade-in credit from one vendor to purchase cards that a different vendor has a better buy price on (including credit). At first the task seemed daunting and improbabe, but after a half a dozen cycles across three different retailers, I can confirm that this strategy is 100% effective.
At least for now…more on that later.
But before I dive into the cautions of this approach, I first want to share some high level observations on the three vendors I use most frequently for this credit experiment: Star City Games, Card Kingdom, and ABU Games. By understanding a few valuable rules of thumb and observations, we can begin to piece together how this credit experiment has been so successful to date.

By Saturday night, I had a pretty rough idea what my article topic was going to be heading into Sunday morning. There were numerous loose ends I was planning on tying up from past articles – a conglomeration of ancillary thoughts and observations, of sorts.
Then I woke up Sunday morning and saw a barrage of news and spoilers from Battle for Zendikar. Naturally I would be doing a major disservice to MTG Price subscribers if I didn’t share my gut reactions to all this information. I will have to put my other ideas on hold for at least another week.
Perhaps it’s for the best.
Lands Lands Lands
We received three major land spoilers over the weekend, and each will have some sort of financial impact.
