MTGPrice’s Travis Allen and Sigmund Ausfresser have both covered very well the common-sense idea that the Expeditions lands included in the rare Battle for Zendikar pack will lower prices, both by increasing the number of packs opened by gambling-minded players and adding pricey top-end cards that will put downward pressure on everything else in the set. I agree with their assessments, but you’ve already read all about those factors, so I’m not going to continue to harp on it. Cards in this set will be worth less than they would be should the Expeditions lands not exist. We get it.

PROTRADER: Battle for Zendikar Set Review – White
It’s that time of year once again. With the Battle for Zendikar release on the horizon, the writers here at MTGPrice have you covered. We’re going through each of the colors in the set and breaking down which cards we anticipate will be strong upon release, which may have a shot in an eternal format, and which are plain, old duds.
This time things are a little different, however. In past sets, there were many possibilities for various cards to “break out” and surge in price relative to their pre-sale price. From Origins, examples include Hangarback Walker and Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy. While cards from Battle for Zendikar may still spike upon release due to an artificially light supply, I’m not so confident we’ll see many real money-makers in the set.
The reason? One word: Expeditions.

PROTRADER: September MTG Finance Grab Bag
This is the opening paragraph of today’s article; you are currently reading what is called an “attention-grabber.” The purpose of this introduction is to outline the remainder of the article with some variety of anecdote or short story. Of course, today is going to be a grab bag of a few topics not large enough to compose their own article, so there is really no glue to hold them all together. So we can either draw this platitude out, or we can get down to business.
That’s what I thought.

PROTRADER: Boats Run Aground
Landfall is coming.
We’re all already very aware of how much fun landfall can be. Who doesn’t like to smash people in EDH with Avenger of Zendikar? That’s such a cliche at this point that a reader of mine called its inclusion in a deck where I was doing crazy landfall shenanigans questionable, as if Avenger of Zendikar had jumped the shark. Screw that, landfall is awesome and landfalling feels good and I’m going to keep doing it. We’re going to want to landfall a lot more in the future, and there are a lot of cards people are going to look back at coming up here pretty soon, and I think it’s worth buying ahead of them. Battle for Zendikar is about to make it cool to landfall again, so let’s be ready.
